UNDERSTANDING YOUR PURPOSE
“The purpose in the heart of a man is like deep water, but a man of good sense will get it out.” (Proverbs 20:5 BBE)
Collins English Dictionary defines the word “purpose” as “the reason for which anything is done, created, or exists; a fixed design, outcome, or idea that is the object of an action or other effort; fixed intention in doing something.”
God is a God of purpose. He does nothing without a specific purpose or fixed intention. Your birth was neither a mistake nor a mishap, notwithstanding the circumstances surrounding your birth.
You are not a biological accident or a mishap but a product of purpose!
God created you on purpose, with a purpose, and for a purpose. God has a glorious purpose or fixed intention for creating and saving you.
Paul clearly states this truth in his epistle.
Ephesians 2:10 – WNT
10 For we are God’s own handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for good works which He has pre-destined us to practice.
God deliberately or intentionally created you in Christ for good purposes. God predestines you to accomplish something good, great, and definite on earth. It is simply a tragedy to live without any bearing, relation, or reference to God’s purpose for your life.
A life not spent on God’s purpose is a total waste. It is a significant loss both to God and humanity.

Living without any sense or vision of your God-ordained purpose in life is reckless or extravagant living. It is simply an abuse of life, a misuse of God’s resources, and a waste of opportunities.
Therefore, the Scripture warns, “Where there is no vision, the people are uncontrolled; but he who keeps the law will be happy.” (Prov. 29:18 BBE).
The purpose of this piece is to aptly present to you some basic or fundamental truths about your God-ordained purpose, which are very crucial to discovering, pursuing, and accomplishing your purpose in life.
First, your purpose was determined and designed by God before your birth:
Your purpose predated or preceded your creation or birth. You were created fearfully, wonderfully, and specifically for a purpose.
You were born because God has something special that He has specifically ordained and designed you to accomplish for His glory and the blessing of humanity on earth.
This is why God said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.” (Jer. 1:5 RSV).
The same is true of you!
Your purpose existed before your birth. You came into existence because there is a purpose for you to fulfill. You must not leave this world without discovering and fulfilling the purpose of why you were created or born (Gal. 1:15-16, Eph. 2:10).
Second, it is your responsibility to discover your purpose in life:
Although your purpose has been determined and designed by God before you were born, yet it is possible to live and die without any sense, vision, or understanding of your God-ordained purpose in life.
If you don’t apply your heart to seek, to search out, to discover, to know, and understand your purpose in life, you may never find and fulfill it before the end of your pilgrimage on earth (Eccl. 7:25-26, 8:16-17, Luke 4:16-21).
While it is God’s prerogative to plan a purpose for your life and design you according to His purpose for your life; however, it is your responsibility and to your glory to seek, search out, or discover God’s purpose for your life.
The Scripture states, “It is the glory of God to keep a thing secret: but the glory of kings is to have it searched out.” (Prov. 25:2 BBE).
Nobody in life owes you the responsibility to search out or to discover your purpose for you.
While God may bring certain people your way to guide, instruct, motivate, challenge, and encourage you to discover and fulfill your purpose, it is your responsibility to discover, pursue, and accomplish your purpose in life.
King Solomon said, “When I applied my heart to know wisdom and to see… then I saw all the work of God…” (Eccl. 8:16-17 NKJV).
“I applied my heart to know, to search and seek out wisdom and the reason of things… And I find…” (Eccl. 7:25-26 NKJV).
If you also apply your heart to know, search, and seek your purpose in life, you will indeed discover or find it.
Jesus assures, “For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” (Matt. 7:8 NKJV).
Third, God has put your purpose within you:
The vital clues, hints, indicators, or pointers to your purpose are already put within you by God. Therefore, your purpose is within your reach. You don’t need to look far to find out your purpose in life.
Solomon testifies to this truth.

Out of over 7 billion people in the world today, no one is precisely or perfectly like you in every way. God created you to be a singular, special, unique, and unequaled entity.
Your uniqueness is an important clue or hint to discovering your purpose in life. Your unique potentials, talents, gifting, and passion are placed explicitly within you by God to help you discover your special purpose in life.
Fourth, Your God-ordained purpose transcends or surpasses you:
God is infinitely bigger and greater than anyone or anything in life, so His purposes or intentions are far bigger or greater than what your little brain can perfectly figure out.
God’s purpose for your life is far bigger than your family background, your academic qualifications, financial status, or skills and talents in life.
God’s unique purpose for your life is infinitely deeper, wider, and greater in scope or dimension than what your carnal mind will ever be able to fathom completely, imagine, or comprehend (1 Cor. 2:9, Isa. 55:8-9).
It is impossible to fully explore, discover, or understand your purpose without the help of the Holy Spirit. “For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.” (1 Cor. 2:10 NKJV).
Similarly, it is impossible to successfully accomplish your purpose in life without the Holy Spirit’s help.
The Holy Spirit is your primary divine helper and partner in discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling God’s purpose for your life (John 15:5, Acts 10:38).
Lastly, your purpose is primarily and ultimately intended for God’s pleasure and glory:
Undoubtedly, pursuing and fulfilling God’s purpose for your life will make you an asset or a blessing to humanity.
Likewise, you will find and experience true fulfillment, happiness, joy, pleasure, honor, wealth, and riches in the pursuit of your purpose in life.
However, the ultimate end of your purpose is God’s pleasure, praise, and glory, for all things, were created by God and for God.
The Scripture amply testifies to this truth.
Revelation 4:11 – KJV
11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure , they are and were created.
Romans 11:36 – NKJV
36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.
Colossians 1:16 – NKJV
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
Every product is in the market to promote, display, exhibit, or show forth the name, the wisdom, or the unique skill of its manufacturer or producer.
Similarly, you are fearfully, wonderfully, and specially made, designed, wired, configured, or put together by God to promote, display, declare, or show forth His name, nature, praise, power, wisdom, and glory (1 Pet. 2:9).
God said, “Everyone who is called by My name, Whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him.” (Isa. 43:7 NKJV).
“This people I have formed for Myself; They shall declare My praise.” (Isa. 43:21 NKJV).
Beloved, stop living a purposeless life. Seek out and find God-ordained purpose for your life and begin to live your life on purpose, with purpose, and for His purpose.
Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for planning a unique purpose for me and for designing me uniquely according to Your special purpose for my life. I shall not die without discovering and fulfilling Your divine and unique purpose for my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
