GET RID OF THE VEIL

by Jan 10, 2020January

“Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their minds; but when a man turns to the Lord the veil is removed.” (2 Corinthians 3:15-16 RSV)

When Moses returned from Mount Sinai where he had gone to be with the LORD for forty days and forty nights and to receive the two tablets of the Ten Commandments for the children of Israel, unknown to Moses, the skin of his face shone and glowed with God’s glory, and the children of Israel were afraid to come near him (Exo. 34:30).

Therefore, Moses had to put a veil on his face while speaking with the children of Israel. Sadly, many of the Jews today are still reading the Old Testament with this veil in their minds and thus beholding God’s glory through the veil.

2 Corinthians 3:

14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ.

(NKJV).

This is the primary reason why many of the Jews did not see, recognize or accept Jesus Christ as their Messiah when He came to them (John 1:11).

When you view an object through a veil, your perception, observation, or description of the object will certainly be distorted and inaccurate because you are not seeing the object as it is.

Similarly, when you approach God’s Word with a veil on your mind, your interpretation and understanding of the scriptures will be distorted, biased and inaccurate, thereby resulting in wrong application of God’s Word to your life and situation.

Many believers today are not being transformed increasingly into Christlikeness in their will, mind, thoughts, words, emotions and character in spite of beholding, reading, hearing or listening to God’s Word constantly because of the veils on their minds which don’t allow them to see Christ as He is in the mirror of the Word.

As a result of their veiled minds, they are always reading their preferred meanings and preconceived ideas into God’s Word, thereby speaking to themselves rather than God speaking to them through His Word and making God’s Word of no effect in their lives and situations (Mark. 7:13).

Any veil you allow to remain on your mind will impair or distort your vision or revelation of Jesus Christ. It will blind your mind to the true person, love, nature, glory, power, or character of Jesus Christ.

Therefore, you cannot be changed or transformed progressively into Christlikeness by His Word and His Spirit when you allow the veil of religion, culture, human tradition or philosophy to remain on your mind.

You are transformed into Christlikeness from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord as you constantly behold the glory of the Lord in the mirror of God’s Word with an unveiled mind.

Paul states, “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Cor. 3:18 NKJV).

Therefore, it is unprofitable to continue to behold the glory of the Lord in the mirror of His Word without first getting rid of the veil on your mind.

If you are not becoming increasingly like the Lord Jesus Christ in your will, mind, thoughts, words, mindsets, emotions, conduct or character though you are constantly reading, studying, hearing and meditating in God’s Word; you certainly have a veil on your mind that is preventing you from seeing the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ clearly, just as He is.

You are not becoming more and more like Christ because you are not seeing Him more and more as He is, without any veil on your mind.

When you truly begin to see the Lord Jesus just as He is, without any veil on your mind, you will not remain the same, for you will be increasingly transformed into His image that you are seeing or beholding (2 Cor. 3:18, Col. 3:4).

John testifies, “Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.” (1 John 3:2 NKJV).

How then do you get the veil taken away from your mind?

Simply by turning humbly and wholly to the Lord Jesus Christ!

Paul states, “Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.” (2 Cor. 3:16 NKJV).

It is turning humbly, completely, or wholeheartedly to the Lord Jesus in faith that takes away the veil.

Unless you approach God’s Word as a little child with eagerness, openness and humility to learn, trust and obey God’s Word, the veil will remain on your mind.

Beloved, it is turning humbly and wholeheartedly to the Holy Spirit and trusting Him completely to explain, expound, and interpret God’s Word to you that gets rid of the veil on your mind.

If you continue to approach God’s Word as the wise and prudent, you will continue to behold the Lord’s glory in His Word with a veiled mind, and that is unprofitable to you.

God only reveals His Word to babes – those who approach His Word with eagerness, openness, humility and faith to learn and obey.

The Lord Jesus amply states this truth.

Matthew 11:

25 At that time Jesus answered and said, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes.

26 “Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight. (NKJV).

John 7:

17 “If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority. (NKJV).

Luke 18:

16 But Jesus called them to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God.

17 “Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” (NKJV).

Even though all the Scriptures testify of the Lord Jesus Christ, yet the Scribes and the Pharisees (the teachers of the Law) could not see, recognize and accept Jesus Christ as their promised Messiah.

Why?

Simply because they failed to approach Jesus Christ as little children, with humility, eagerness and openness to learn from Him!

They chose not to turn humbly, completely, or wholeheartedly to the Lord Jesus Christ in faith!

John 5:

38 “But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.

39 “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.

40 “But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life. (NKJV).

The Scribes and the Pharisees who were the teachers of the Law became “fools and blind” (Matt. 23:19 NKJV) or “blind guides” (Matt. 23:24 NKJV) because they were wise and prudent in their own eyes, and so “professing to be wise, they became fools.” (Rom. 1:22 NKJV).

Isaiah warns, “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!” (Isa. 5:21 NKJV).

The veil on the minds of the Scribes and the Pharisees was not removed because they would not approach or turn to Jesus Christ as little children, so as to learn humbly and eagerly from Him and trust in Him wholeheartedly as their Lord and Saviour.

Jesus said concerning them, “Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.” (Matt. 15:14 NKJV).

Friend, if you also don’t want to end up as a fool and blind guide like the wise and proud teachers of the law in Jesus’ days on earth (the Scribes and the Pharisees), don’t be wise or prudent in your own eyes.

Rather, begin to approach God’s Word with a humble, open, and willing mind like a little child, trusting the divine author of the Scripture to give you spiritual understanding and revelation knowledge of His Word, and with eagerness or readiness to completely trust and obey God’s Word.

This is the sure way to get rid of every veil on your mind!

Prayer: My Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I humbly and wholeheartedly turn to You today in faith, acknowledging and confessing You as my Lord and Saviour. My Dear Holy Spirit, take away every veil on my mind that I may see Christ as He is and be progressively transformed into His likeness in every aspect of my life, in Jesus’ name.
