“Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.” (Ephesians 5:1-2 NKJV)

Some Christians today are not living the higher, superior, or supernatural life that God intended for them in Christ simply because they lack a precise and correct knowledge of who they are in Christ, what they have in Christ, and what Christ has accomplished in them and for them through His finished work.

Without precise and correct knowledge, full discernment, or recognition of your new spiritual identity (nature, life, condition, status, position, authority, and inheritance) in Christ as a result of the New Birth experience, you will continue to think, judge, speak, live, act and walk as a mere, ordinary or natural man, who is without God’s life, nature and Spirit (1 Cor. 3:1-4).

It is impossible to live a higher, superior, or supernatural life that God expected you to live without knowing and internalizing the truth that you are no longer in the flesh. Instead, you now have the Spirit of Christ, the life of Christ, and you no longer have a corrupt or sinful nature but only a divine nature.

Similarly, your body is now the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you forever; you are now holy, blameless, and above reproach in God’s sight, and you are presently seated in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus.

Having examined some scriptural truths about the new creation in the first part of this piece, we shall now focus on what it means to live a supernatural life.

What does it mean for a Christian to live a supernatural life?

First, living a supernatural life is walking in God’s love.

It is common and natural to love your family and friends but hate your enemies. It is nothing abnormal or extraordinary to bless those who bless you, to curse those who curse you, to do good to those who do good to you, and to pay evil with evil.

On the contrary, it is uncommon, abnormal, extraordinary, or supernatural to love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use and persecute you (Matt. 5:43-48).

Living a supernatural life is simply walking in love just as Jesus Christ has loved you!

Ephesians 5:1-2 – NKJV

1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

Second, living a supernatural life is walking by God’s faith.

Living, acting, operating, and walking by your natural senses are ordinary, regular, or natural. It is natural to base your choices, judgments, and decisions on your natural senses—what you can see, hear, taste, feel, or touch.

Living by your natural senses is natural, normal, or ordinary living. On the contrary, walking by faith or basing your choices, judgments, and decisions in life on spiritual truths or realities (God’s Word) is living a supernatural life (2 Cor. 4:16-18).

Third, living a supernatural life is walking in the Spirit.

It is common, natural, or normal to gratify the flesh’s passions, lusts, cravings, or dictates. Similarly, it is common, natural, or normal to trust in or rely upon your natural strength, skill, wisdom, or talents.

Unbelievers are debtors and slaves to the flesh, and so they live in the flesh, walk according to the flesh, and put their confidence in their flesh.

On the contrary, the born-again believers are no longer debtors to the flesh to live in it, walk according to it, and put their confidence in it (Rom. 8:9-14). Living a supernatural life is not just having the Holy Spirit but letting the Holy Spirit have you!

All born-again believers have the Holy Spirit, but not all believers walk in the Spirit and thus live a supernatural life.

Living a supernatural life is simply walking in the Spirit!

What does it imply to walk in the Spirit?

Carefully consider these scriptures (Galatians 5:16, 25) in the following translations:

Galatians 5:16 – NKJV

16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.

Galatians 5:25 – NKJV

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 – AMP

16 But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).

Galatians 5:25 – AMP

25 If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God, let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]

Galatians 5:16 – GNT

16 What I say is this: let the Spirit direct your lives, and you will not satisfy the desires of the human nature.

Galatians 5:25 – GNT

25 The Spirit has given us life; he must also control our lives.

Galatians 5:16 – NLT

16 So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

Galatians 5:25 – NLT

25 Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives.

Galatians 5:16 – MNT

16 This is my meaning: Let your steps be guided by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Galatians 5:25 – MNT

25 If we are living by the Spirit, let us also keep step in the Spirit.

Galatians 5:16 – WNT

16 This then is what I mean. Let your lives be guided by the Spirit, and then you will certainly not indulge the cravings of your lower natures.

Galatians 5:25 – WNT

25 If we are living by the Spirit’s power, let our conduct also be governed by the Spirit’s power.

In summary, looking at these scriptures (Gal. 5:16, 25) in different translations, we can deduce that walking in the Spirit implies the following:

  • Being responsive to the Holy Spirit.
  • Being controlled and guided by the Holy Spirit.
  • Walking by and in line with the Holy Spirit.
  • Allowing your conduct to be controlled by the Holy Spirit.
  • Letting the Holy Spirit control your life.
  • Allowing the Holy Spirit to direct your life.
  • Letting the Holy Spirit guide your life.
  • Following the leading of the Holy Spirit.
  • Letting your steps be guided by the Holy Spirit.
  • Keeping step or pace with the Holy Spirit.
  • Letting your conduct be governed by the Holy Spirit.

Beloved, you now have all the divine potentials or capacities needed to live a supernatural life (walk in God’s love, God’s kind of faith, and walk in God’s Spirit) in this present life.

Therefore, stop thinking, speaking, acting, walking, or living below your divine potential or capacities, just like the unbelievers without God’s love, faith, and Spirit in their hearts.

Rise today and start to live and walk as Christ did!

1 John 2:6 – NKJV

6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.

Prayer:

My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for granting me all the divine potential to live a supernatural life. My Dear Holy Spirit, teach and help me daily to utilize and maximize my divine potential as a new creation in Christ to live a supernatural life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
