“Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.

” But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (1 Corinthians 6:16-17 NKJV)

As a marital relationship results in a physical union (two becoming one flesh), so does a spiritual relationship with the Lord Jesus results in a spiritual union (you become one spirit with Christ).

Paul aptly states this truth.

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 – NKJV

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”

17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Although you may not understand the mystery of your spiritual oneness with Christ fully, yet it takes walking in the light of this truth for you to appropriate and enjoy the inexhaustible riches of God’s grace available to you in and through Christ.

Your relationship with God through faith in Christ Jesus does not make you one soul, one body, or one flesh with Christ, but one spirit with Christ.

While you are not yet fully one with Christ in your body, will, mind, thoughts, desires, emotions, or actions; however, you are now fully one with Christ in your born-again spirit.

As a born-again believer, you no longer have a corrupt, dead, weak, or subservient spirit, but a holy, living, strong, dynamic, rich, and robust spirit like that of Christ. When you are joined to the Lord Jesus Christ, you have the same spirit with Him.

Your new recreated spirit is precisely like that of Christ in every form!

Colossians 3:9-11 – NKJV

9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,

10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him,

11 where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised nor uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave nor free, but Christ is all and in all.

1 Corinthians 6:17 – NKJV

17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

The Greek word that was translated “one” in 1 Corinthians 6:17 is “heis,” and it means “a single (one), to the exclusion of others” (W.E. Vine’s).

It is the same word that was used twice in 1 Timothy 2:5 (KJV): “For [there is] one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”

We don’t have multiple Gods. There is just one God. Likewise, when you get born-again, your new spirit becomes one with Christ.

When you became born-again, you were spiritually plucked out of the first man (Adam) and spiritually grafted into the second man (Christ Jesus), who is a life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45).

You are now a branch in the true vine, Christ Jesus (John. 15:5). As a branch firmly joined to Christ, the true vine, you partake fully of the rich sap or fatness of the vine, of the fullness of God’s grace (Rom. 11:17).

All that is in the vine is also in the branches of the vine. In Christ, all that is in Christ is also in your born again-spirit, not in a small or limited measure, but abundant and unlimited measure, for you are one spirit with Christ.

Therefore, the Scripture called you “a joint heir with Christ” (Rom. 8:17 NKJV).

God also said that He has blessed you “with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ.” (Eph. 1:3 NKJV). And that He has given to you “all things that pertain to life and godliness.” (2 Pet. 1:3 NKJV).

There is nothing that Christ has that He has not freely and abundantly shared with you in your born-again spirit!

If the believers have truly and fully become one spirit with Christ, why then are we not manifesting the fullness of God as Christ did?

Our flesh!

Our unrenewed mind!

Although through the New Birth, you now have a new spirit like that of Christ, yet you still possess a soul (mind, will, and emotions) and body that are not yet one with Christ.

Therefore, it is to the degree to which you have renewed your mind, yielded your will to God’s Spirit, and disciplined your body that you will manifest God (Rom. 12:2, 2 Cor. 4:11).

Even though your born again-spirit shares the same fullness or riches of God with Christ, yet you may never express or manifest the riches or treasures in your spirit if you don’t yield yourself to the Holy Spirit and deny yourself.

Therefore, it is not more of God that you need to manifest more of God; instead, it is more of you yielding yourself to God’s Spirit, more of you depending upon God’s Spirit, and more of you appropriating by faith God’s unlimited, unsearchable, and immeasurable riches of grace.

So, quit begging God for more when He said He had made you one spirit with the Lord Jesus Christ, the heir of all things, thereby making you a joint heir with Christ.

All that God made available to Christ to live a victorious life while in the world is also available to you now in Christ, not in a different measure but the same measure.

Peter aptly states this truth in his epistle.

2 Peter 1:1-3 – MNT

1 Simon Peter, a slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who have obtained an equally precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you by the God and Father of Jesus our Lord.

3 For his power divine has granted to us everything needful for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and virtue.

Therefore, no believer has any plausible reason or excuse to live a life below God’s standard – the life Christ lived.

Friend quit finding and giving excuses for your defeat and failure in life. Instead, begin to acknowledge, understand, and appropriate by faith all the riches of God that Christ has gladly, lovingly, and freely shared with you as one who is one spirit with Him.

Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making me one spirit with Christ. I am so glad to have the Spirit of Your Son in me.
