DISCOVERING GOD’S PURPOSE FOR YOUR LIFE (Part 2)

by May 26, 2020May

“The purpose in a man’s mind is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.” (Proverbs 20:5 RSV)

You are perfectly cut out for something unique and specific in life. There is something that only you can do perfectly in life. This is your purpose in life. God specifically created you for a specific or special purpose in life.

You cannot fully enjoy or maximize your life without finding out and committing yourself to fulfilling God’s purpose for creating you as a unique person on earth.

Sadly, many people in the world today are completely ignorant of why God created them to be unique or different from any other person in the world.

In the first part of this piece we began to consider how you can discover and understand God’s unique or specific purpose for your life.

Let us now continue.

First, Seek God with all your heart:

When you find and connect with God, you will find and connect with your purpose in life because God is the author and designer of your purpose in life.

Without a loving and intimate relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ, your purpose in life will remain a mirage to you.

But your purpose in life will become clearer to you as you enjoy a deep and regular communion with God in prayer and in the study of God’s Word (Jer. 1:5, Gal. 1:15, Jer. 33:3).

Second, Offer yourself to God as a living sacrifice:

It takes you yielding yourself unreservedly, entirely, and continuously to God to discover and understand God’s unique purpose for your life.

Without a willing mind to respond promptly and positively to whatever God says, commands, or reveals to you, it may be very difficult for you to discover and fulfill God’s purpose for your life.

The Lord Jesus said, “If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know…” (John 7:17 NKJV).

If you are truly willing to fulfil God’s purpose, you will certainly know it!

Third, Discover your uniqueness in life:

There is nobody on earth who is perfectly like you in every way. You are a unique, a special and a peculiar person. Your uniqueness is a major clue or pointer to your purpose in life.

You are on your way to discovering your unique purpose in life when you begin to discover who you are, what is special about you, or what makes you different from any other person in the world.

There is something unique in you or about you; discover it and your purpose will become clear to you (Psa. 139:14)!

Fourth, Recognize your undying passion:

Deep down within you lies a strong and special passion, interest, desire, love or zeal for your unique purpose in life.

God deliberately placed an undying passion, desire or zeal for your purpose in your heart so that you might enjoy doing it every day of your life without you getting bored or giving up in spite of the opposition you may face.

Proverbs 20:5 – RSV

5 The purpose in a man’s mind is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out.

The clue to your purpose is the deep, godly and undying passion, desire, love, or interest for something that glorifies God and blesses humanity within you.

No challenge, suffering, trial, or tribulation in life can drown, submerge or quench your God-given unique passion, desire or interest for what God has created you to accomplish on earth.

Therefore, if you can recognize the godly passion, desire or interest in you that has survived and outlived all the pressures, trials or challenges of life that have confronted you in the past, you are not too far from your real purpose in life (Acts 7:23-25).

Follow the unquenchable divine passion, desire, interest, or zeal within you and it will lead you to your divine purpose in life.

Fifth, Identify the supernatural abilities or tools in your life:

God has furnished, equipped and enabled you with supernatural abilities or tools that you will need to accomplish your God-ordained purpose in life without stress or sweat.

These supernatural tools are your talents, gifting, or potentials. God will be unjust or wicked to call you to accomplish something that you are not naturally talented or spiritually gifted to accomplish (Eph. 2:10).

You already have the unique talent, gifting, potential, or unction you need to fulfil your unique purpose in life. Therefore, if you can identify the tools God has already equipped or furnished you with, it will not be difficult to identify or recognize the works to do with them.

Your God-given potential is a direct pointer to your God-ordained purpose in life. God gives us talents, gifts, or divine abilities as He wills or according to His purpose (1 Cor. 12:11).

Discover the divine ability God has given you and it will point you to the divine purpose or mission God has given you.

Many believers today are ignorant or confused about their purpose in life because they don’t know or believe that God has already prepared, equipped, furnished or enabled them to accomplish what He has called them to do for His glory and the goodness of humanity.

Even under the Old Covenant, God never called anybody to accomplish a divine work or purpose without first equipping, furnishing or enabling him with all the divine abilities or tools needed (Exo. 28:3). God will be unjust or unfair to do that!

When it was time to build the Tabernacle in the wilderness, God said to Moses that He had put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans He had called to build the Tabernacle.

Exodus 31:1-6 – NKJV

1 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

2 “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah.

3 “And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship,

4 “to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze,

5 “in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship.

6 “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all who are gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you.

Beloved, the truth is that God has already made you sufficient or competent for the divine purpose He has called you to accomplish.

However, you are not sufficient or competent in yourself, but in God who has given or blessed you with all that you need to accomplish the divine work or assignment He has given you to do (2 Cor. 3:5).

This is why Apostle Paul writes that God “has made us competent to be ministers of a new covenant, not in a written code but in the Spirit; for the written code kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (2 Cor. 3:6 RSV).

Therefore, when you discover what God has made you sufficient or competent to do, you have found your purpose in life.

Sixth, Consult and Check with the Holy Spirit:

The Holy Spirit is your divine partner and helper in discovering and fulfilling God’s purpose for your life.

The Holy Spirit knows and understands perfectly what God has created and called you to do. Therefore, He is the perfect consultant or adviser to consult in the matter of your purpose (1 Cor. 2:9-10).

Paul writes, “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.” (1 Corinthians 2:11 NKJV).

Although the Holy Spirit is the perfect consultant in the matter of purpose, yet if you don’t consult Him, you will remain ignorant or confused in the matter of your purpose in life.

Therefore, to find your purpose in life you will need to be more conscious of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit in you by spending quality time to pray in the Holy Spirit (praying in tongues), in studying and meditating in God’s Word, and in listening to the Holy Spirit (Jude 1:20, 1 Cor. 14:2).

When you ask the Holy Spirit for your unique purpose or mission in life, He will definitely reveal it to you in the way you will understand. The Holy Spirit can lead you to your purpose in God’s Word (Luke 4:17-21).

The Holy Spirit can reveal your purpose to you by speaking audibly to you as though a person is standing beside you speaking to you, or by speaking through a still small inner voice in your spirit or heart (Isa. 30:21).

Moreover, the Holy Spirit can speak to you through others by prophecy or word of knowledge (Acts 13:1-3). Also, the Holy Spirit can guide or direct you to your purpose through the witness of peace and joy He bears with your spirit (Rom. 8:16).

When you are in the right path of purpose or pursuing your real purpose in life, you will always experience indescribable peace and joy in your heart from the Holy Spirit.

This is why the Scripture says, “For you shall go out with joy, and be led out with peace…” (Isa. 55:12 NKJV). “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts…” (Col. 3:15 NKJV).

Lastly, Serve faithfully where you are now:

You are created to serve others in love and humility. You don’t need to wait until you discover your unique purpose in life before you begin to serve faithfully and joyfully.

Moses discovered his divine purpose in life while he was serving his father-in-law. It was while Moses was tending Jethro’s flock, not his own, that God called him into his divine purpose in life (Exo. 3:1-10).

Beloved, don’t be idle or slothful in life while seeking for God’s purpose for your life!

The Scripture warns, “And if you have not been faithful in what is another man’s, who will give you what is your own? (Luke 16:12 NKJV).

Therefore, serve faithfully, diligently, lovingly and joyfully wherever you are now while on the way to where God has called you to fulfil His divine purpose.

Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for showing me how to find my divine purpose in life. Dear Holy Spirit, help me not to relent in seeking until I find and understand my divine calling and purpose in life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
