“Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law.” (Proverbs 29:18 NKJV)
You are God’s masterpiece, fearfully and wonderfully formed, designed, wired, equipped, and packaged for a unique purpose, mission, or assignment.
God has specifically furnished and packaged you as His unique solution to a unique problem, as His special provision to meet a unique need, and as His unique answer to a particular question.
Therefore, despising or neglecting your God-ordained purpose is a great crime to humanity. It is deprivation or loss to the entire world!
Living without purpose is a prodigal living!
A life not committed to fulfilling God’s purpose is a wasted life—a significant loss to God and humanity.
The greatest tragedy or disaster in life is not death but living without reference to God’s purpose for your life. However, there is nothing as potent as living for God’s purpose.
In this piece, we shall consider some powerful forces that emanate from understanding and pursuing God’s purpose for your life.
First, Purpose gives true meaning and significance to your life:
Without God, life has no purpose, and without purpose, life has no meaning. Without meaning, life has no significance or hope. When life has lost importance or value, you will detest it and find suicide appealing.
But when life means something significant, you can endure hardship, trial, or suffering. Therefore, understanding God’s purpose for your life will strengthen or empower you to face, handle, bear, or withstand the pressures and vicissitudes of life.
When a man finds his true purpose in life, he despises and trivializes any trials and tribulations that may come his way.
Apostle Paul could not be moved, troubled, or overwhelmed by any threat, trial, or tribulation, having found his God-ordained purpose.
In the face of dangers, he boldly declared, “But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24 NKJV).
Second, Purpose simplifies your life:
Life only becomes a complex or a compound mass when the purpose of life is not understood. Purpose helps you to plan and prioritize your daily schedules. It allows you to define and determine what to do or not to do in life, why you should or should not do it, when, how to do it, and the people or resources to do it with.
A life without purpose is disorganized and disoriented, characterized by confusion, conflict, and stress. When you don’t know God’s purpose for your life, you will burn yourself out doing too much distressing work or indulge in trivialities or frivolities.
Third, Purpose focuses your life:
Understanding God’s purpose for your life will help you concentrate or focus your effort, energy, and resources on what is essential, making you very effective, efficient, impactful, and productive in life.
Without a clear purpose, you will always experience the dissipation of resources without any significant result.
Living without a purpose is like driving without a specific direction or destination in mind. You will drift about life and become unstable, unrestrained, or uncontrollable when you have no vision, revelation, or understanding of your purpose in life (Gen. 49:4, Jam. 1:8).
No one is as frivolous, reckless, wild, or dangerous as someone living without regard or reference to his God-ordained purpose in life.
Therefore, the Scripture warns, “Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but happy is he who keeps the law.” (Prov. 29:18 NKJV).
Fourth, Purpose energizes or stimulates your life:
Nothing motivates, excites, or charges up your heart like a clear vision and understanding of your purpose in life.
Purpose is a potent stimulant or booster to life!
When your purpose is unknown, life becomes dull, unattractive, uninteresting, and boring; getting out of bed in the morning becomes a hard choice, chore, or struggle.
When you fail to seek out, discover, and understand your purpose, life will eventually become a heavyweight or burden for you to bear.
If you despise or disregard God-ordained purpose for your life, you will eventually find no drive, zeal, strength, or reason to continue living.
It is purpose that makes life an exciting adventure!
If you fail to embrace God’s purpose for your life, you will eventually hate life and all the opportunities it offers.
Therefore, Solomon exclaimed, “Therefore I hated life because the work that was done under the sun was distressing to me, for all is vanity and grasping for the wind.” (Eccl. 2:17 NKJV).
Fifth, Purpose activates and releases all your potential:
Knowing your purpose in life will wake up the sleeping giants and dormant potentials in you. While pursuing God’s purpose for your life, everything God has put within you will be activated, engaged, and utilized.
Only in the path of purpose will all the hidden potentials in you come to the limelight and find natural expressions. This is why nobody can beat you in your God-ordained purpose!
Understanding your divine purpose in life will help you maximize your life and every opportunity that comes your way. Purpose will motivate, stimulate or push you to operate optimally.
You will emerge the best when you give yourself to doing what you were purposefully created, designed, wired, gifted, or talented by God to do in life (Gen. 41:38-44, Judg. 6:14, Luke 10:17).
Sixth, Purpose commands influence and affluence in life:
Discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling your purpose in life will undoubtedly affect many lives positively, thereby attracting favor, honor, riches, and wealth to you.
Purpose yields profits, gains, or dividends to those who set their hearts on discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling it (Gen. 50:20, Luke 22:35). Purpose makes you a blessing to your generation, thereby increasing your sphere of influence in life.
When the early apostles of Christ gave themselves to God’s purpose, calling, and mission for their lives, they wielded significant influence in their generation.
As a result of their significant influence, the people feared them and testified of them, saying, “These who have turned the world upside down…” (Acts 17:6 NKJV NKJV).
“These men, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city.” (Acts 16:20 NKJV).
Only as you give yourself to accomplishing God’s purpose for your life will you wield or exert significant influence or impact upon your community, nation, and generation.
Lastly, Purpose prepares you for eternal rewards in heaven:
Life here is a brief test and an opportunity to obtain eternal rewards hereafter. God will audit your life at the end of your pilgrimage on earth.
It is written, “As I live, says the LORD, every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” (Rom. 14:11-12 NKJV).
Beloved, if your life is spent on God’s purpose, you will be highly commended and rewarded at the end of the age, but if it is wasted, consumed, or lavished on pleasures or self-indulgences, there is no reward for you at the Lord’s return.
Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for the unique purpose You have designed for my life. Dear Holy Spirit, teach and help me set my heart on discovering, pursuing, and fulfilling God’s purpose for my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
