DIVINE FOUNTAIN IN EARTHEN VESSELS

by Apr 22, 2021April

“On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37-38 NKJV)

There is a variety of fountains available in the world today for us to drink from. We certainly have a wide range of religions, institutions, organizations, or schools of thought to drink from.

However, Jesus Christ is undoubtedly the only true fountain of living water. Anyone who comes to Christ in humility and faith, acknowledging and confessing Jesus Christ as his Saviour and submitting to His lordship, will drink freely and abundantly of the living water and will never thirst again.

Jesus revealed this truth to the Samaritan woman by the well of Jacob.

John 4:13-14 – NKJV

13 Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,

14 “but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Nothing of this world can completely, perfectly, continually, or eternally satisfy the deepest longing, desire, hunger, or thirst of the human soul.

The human soul came directly from God; it is not made from any earthly material. Therefore, nothing material or worldly can genuinely satisfy it (Gen. 2:7).

While any good fountain we drink from may offer us some temporary relief, comfort, pleasure, or happiness, no fountain other than Jesus Christ can offer us eternal life and satisfy our soul completely, perfectly, and eternally.

The Scripture amply affirms that Jesus Christ is the only fountain or source of eternal life.

John 3:14-16, 36 – NKJV

14 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

15 “that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

36 “He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

1 John 5:9-13 – NKJV

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son.

10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.

11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

Regardless of the fountain you drink from in this world; your soul will still thirst for something else. But if you drink from Christ, the fountain of eternal life, your soul will be completely, perfectly, continually, and eternally satisfied with God’s salvation.

John 6:35 – NKJV

35 And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.

However, the Lord Jesus Christ not only invites us to drink freely and abundantly of the fountain of living water, but He also invites us to become a channel through which the living water can flow to others.

While we only seek just enough living water to satisfy our thirsty souls, Christ has something infinitely greater to offer us.

What could that be?

To be His earthen vessels or channels carrying and dispensing the living water to thirsty souls!

Every born-again believer has in him/her the fountain of living water. Glory! Hallelujah!

If you have indeed come to Christ in humility and faith, acknowledging and confessing Him as your personal Saviour and Lord, you are not only perfectly and eternally satisfied with the living water; you have also become a vessel carrying the fountain of living water.

You are not the fountain of living water; Jesus Christ is. However, Christ, by His Spirit, now lives in your heart. Therefore, you now have the fountain of life within you.

The Scripture amply attests to this truth.

John 7:37-39 – NKJV

37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.

38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

1 Corinthians 3:16 – NKJV

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (NKJV).

1 Corinthians 6:19 – NKJV

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?

2 Corinthians 6:16 – NKJV

16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people.” (NKJV).

Beloved, it is indeed very comforting to realize that you now have within you “a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” (John 4:13-14 NKJV).

But much more than this, it is humbling to realize how much trust or confidence God has reposed in you by putting in you a fountain of living water, just as He put water in the rock to satisfy the thirsty and wearied souls of the children of Israel in the wilderness (Exo. 17:1-7).

By putting in you the fountain of living water, God has also placed an enormous responsibility upon you as a believer.

What does God expect you to do with the fountain of living water within your heart?

To simply let the rivers of living water flow out of the fountain in your heart to comfort, restore, revive, heal, strengthen, and save the wearied, fainting, or thirsty souls around you!

John 7:38-39 – NKJV

38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”

39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

Are you allowing the rivers of living water to flow out of your regenerated heart or spirit today?

Are the wearied, fainting, or thirsty souls around you being saved, revived, restored, strengthening, and comforted?

If not, something is blocking, hindering, or stopping the flow of rivers of living water from the fountain within you.

Friend, it could be your ignorance of who you are now in Christ, what you currently have in Christ, and what you can now do through Christ.

Or, it could be your unbelief, self-centredness, or fear of men that is hindering or blocking the smooth and continuous flow of rivers of living water out of your recreated heart.

Why not call upon the Holy Spirit today to show you the specific thing that is hindering or preventing the rivers of living water from flowing out of your born-again spirit smoothly, increasingly, and constantly, and to also teach and help you to deal effectively with this hindrance? Why?

Because the eternal destiny of many wearied and thirsty souls around you are dependent upon the smooth and constant flow of rivers of living water flowing from the fountain, the Spirit of God, within you!

Therefore, don’t continue to deprive the thirsty souls around you of drinking from the fountain of living water God has put within your born-again spirit.

Begin to cooperate with the Holy Spirit today to get rid of every impediment or obstruction to the smooth and continuous flow of rivers of living water out of your born-again spirit.

Let rivers of living water begin to flow out from within you. Many souls around you are very thirsty and waiting just for that!

Prayer: My Dear Holy Spirit, show me today every impediment and obstacle to the smooth and constant flow of rivers of living water from the fountain God has put in my regenerated heart and teach me how to deal with them, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
