LIVING A SUPERNATURAL LIFE (Part 1)

by Dec 1, 2019December

“Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.” (1 John 4:17 NKJV)

The Christian life is not intended or designed by God to be a normal, natural, common or ordinary life. Rather, the Christian life is intended by God to be a higher, supernatural, superior, sacred, extraordinary or abnormal life.

Apostle Paul admonishes the believers in Ephesus to no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles.

Ephesians 4:

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

 18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;

19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But you have not so learned Christ. (NKJV).

He further admonishes them to walk as children of light.

Ephesians 5:

1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.

2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.

 3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints;

4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

7 Therefore do not be partakers with them.

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. (NKJV).

This admonition is for all Christians today!

Similarly, Paul sharply rebuked the Corinthian Christians for behaving like mere, ordinary, or natural men in His epistle to them.

1 Corinthians 3:

1 And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in Christ.

 2 I fed you with milk and not with solid food; for until now you were not able to receive it, and even now you are still not able;

3 for you are still carnal. For where there are envy, strife, and divisions among you, are you not carnal and behaving like mere men?

4 For when one says, “I am of Paul,” and another, “I am of Apollos,” are you not carnal? (NKJV).

Like the Corinthian Christians, sadly, many Christians today are still thinking, judging, speaking, living or walking as though they are mere, ordinary or natural men without God’s life, nature, and Spirit in them.

But why are many Christians today still living in sins as though they are still dead in sins, or are still slaves of sin?

Why are many Christians today still gratifying the lusts or desires of the flesh as though they are still debtors to the flesh?

Why are many Christians today full of fears, worries, anxieties, and cares of this life as though they still belong to this world?

Ignorance of who they are now in Christ!

Ignorance of what Christ has accomplished in and for them!

Ignorance of what they now have in Christ!

Ignorance of what Christ can do through them!

Many Christians today continue to think, judge, speak, act, live or walk as they use to do before experiencing the New Birth primarily because they lack a precise and correct knowledge of what happened in them and to them at the instant of the New Birth experience.

Without a precise and correct knowledge of your new spiritual identity (nature, life, condition, status, position, authority, and inheritance) in Christ as a result of the New Birth experience it is impossible to live a higher, supernatural or superior life that God intended for you to live as a Christian in this world.

In his letter to Philemon, Paul points out the truth that your faith cannot be effective without a precise and correct knowledge, recognition, or full discernment of who you are and what you have in Christ Jesus.

Philemon 1:

3 Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

4 I thank my God, making mention of you always in my prayers,

5 hearing of your love and faith which you have toward the Lord Jesus and toward all the saints,

6 that the sharing of your faith may become effective by the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. (NKJV).

The Greek word translated “acknowledgement” in this scripture (Phil. 1:6) is “epignosis” referring to “precise and correct knowledge, recognition, and full discernment.”

Having rebuked His disciples (James and John) sharply for asking for permission to call down fire from heaven to consume a village of the Samaritans who rejected them, just as Elijah did, the Lord Jesus Christ pointed out that their reaction to the people’s rejection was borne out of their ignorance of what manner or kind of spirit they are of (who they are now in Christ).

Luke 9:

51 Now it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem,

52 and sent messengers before His face. And as they went, they entered a village of the Samaritans, to prepare for Him.

53 But they did not receive Him, because His face was set for the journey to Jerusalem.

54 And when His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them, just as Elijah did?”

55 But He turned and rebuked them, and said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of.

56 “For the Son of Man did not come to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went to another village.

(NKJV).

Similarly, the primary reason why you also process and respond in an unchristian manner (just as unbelievers will do) to what happen to you, what people say or do to you is because you lack a precise and correct knowledge, recognition, or full discernment of what manner or kind of spirit you now have in Christ.

It is necessary for you to know who you are and what you have in Christ as a new creation for you to live the supernatural life you are designed and expected to live in this world.

The Scripture amply teaches that the product of the New Birth experience is a New Creation.

2 Corinthians 5:

16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer.

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you are no longer in the flesh but in the Spirit. Therefore, you are no longer a debtor to the flesh, to live or walk according to the lusts or dictates of the flesh.

Romans 8:

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His…

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors–not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.

13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you now have the Spirit of Christ in your heart. Therefore, as Christ is, so are you now in this world.

Galatians 4:

6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!”

7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. (NKJV).

1 Corinthians 6:

15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a harlot? Certainly not!

16 Or do you not know that he who is joined to a harlot is one body with her? For “the two,” He says, “shall become one flesh.”

17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (NKJV).

1 John 4

17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you now have the life of Christ in you. Therefore, you can know and fellowship with God intimately because you have the same life with Him.

1 John 5:

10 He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son.

11 And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.

12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you no longer have the corrupt nature of sin, but only the divine nature. Therefore, you are no longer dead in sins or a slave to sin; rather you are now a slave of righteousness.

Romans 6:

6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.

7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. (NKJV).

Romans 6:

17 But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.

18 And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation your body is now the temple of God and God’s Spirit dwells in you forever. Therefore, you don’t go or come into God’s presence; rather you carry God’s presence with you always.

1 Corinthians 3:

16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?

 (NKJV).

1 Corinthians 6:

19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? (NKJV).

Ephesians 4:

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you are holy, blameless, and above reproach in God’s sight. Therefore, you are always accepted to God in Christ Jesus.

Colossians 1:

21 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled

22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight–

23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. (NKJV).

The Scripture teaches that as a new creation you are now seated in Christ in the heavenly places, “far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. (Ephesians 1:21 NKJV).”

By reason of your union with Christ in His death, resurrection, ascension, and glorification, you wield unlimited spiritual power or authority over all the forces and works of Satan.

Ephesians 2:

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,

5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (NKJV).

Beloved, as a new creation, Jesus Christ is now your new spiritual identity or image. Whatever is true of Christ is now true of you. Whatever belongs to Christ now belong to you, too!

Therefore, it is very crucial for you to be diligent in growing in the revelation knowledge of Jesus Christ. The more you see and know Christ, the more you will see and know who you are, what you have and what you can do in and through Christ.

What does it really mean to live a supernatural life?

Find out in the second part of this piece!

Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making me one spirit with Christ Jesus through the New Birth experience. My Dear Holy Spirit, teach and help me to grow and increase daily in the revelation knowledge of Christ and thus myself as a new creation in Christ, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
