HEAVEN (Part 2)

by Jul 12, 2019July

“They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.” (Revelation 22:4-5 NKJV)

Whatever blessing or goodness of God the believers may experience and enjoy while they live on earth is just a foretaste of what God has prepared for them in heaven.

Nothing of this world can compare with the “inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” (1 Pet. 1:3-4 NKJV).

The believer’s inheritance in Christ infinitely transcends, surpasses or exceeds all that he may possess and enjoy while he lives in this world.

Knowing this truth, Paul writes, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.” (1 Cor. 15:19 NKJV).

The greatest hope, joy, or comfort of every true believer is that his Saviour and Lord, Jesus Christ, is coming back for him.

The Scripture gives us ample assurance that Christ is coming back again for His own.

1 Thessalonians 4:

16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first.

17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. (NKJV).

John 14:

1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.

2 “In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3 “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (NKJV).

Sadly, many believers today have become totally engrossed, immersed, or plunged into this world and are therefore not eagerly waiting for the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Paul admonishes us to be “looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.” (Tit. 2:13-14 NKJV).

The Scripture amply admonishes us to be eagerly waiting and prayerfully watching for Christ’s return for us.

Luke 12:

40 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (NKJV).

Luke 21:

34 But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. (NKJV).

Mark 13:

33 Take heed, watch and pray; for you do not know when the time is. (NKJV).

Hebrews 9:

28 To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation. (NKJV).

In the first part of this series we began to explore what the Scripture teaches about heaven. Let us recap the truths we have discovered so far in God’s Word about heaven.

First, Heaven is God’s physical habitation or home:

Psalms 11:

4 The LORD is in His holy temple, The LORD’S throne is in heaven; His eyes behold, His eyelids test the sons of men. (NKJV).

Isaiah 66:

1 Thus says the LORD: “Heaven is My throne, And earth is My footstool. Where is the house that you will build Me? And where is the place of My rest? (NKJV).

Second, Heaven is a high and holy place:

Isaiah 57:

15 For thus says the High and Lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place…” (NKJV).

Heaven is a place of absolute holiness. Only those redeemed and washed in the blood of the Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, will enter heaven.

Revelation 21:

27 But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life. (NKJV).

Third, Heaven is a place of absolute perfection, for its government is under God, the Just One, and the Lamb, Jesus Christ:

Heaven is a place of perfect order, peace, joy and eternal rest for the saints. It is a place of perfect pleasure, satisfaction and provision.

Revelation 21:

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away. (NKJV).

Let us now further examine more scriptural truths about heaven.

Fourth, God is the light of heaven:

The Scripture teaches that there will be no night or darkness in heaven.

Revelation 22:

5 There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever. (NKJV).

In this world, there may be some secrets, mysteries, or puzzles that you may not know or understand fully, but in heaven you will have perfect knowledge and understanding of all things (1 Cor. 4:5).

All secrets will be exposed, all mysteries will be unravelled and explained, and all puzzles will be solved in heaven (1 Cor. 8:2).

Therefore, Paul cautions and admonishes us to be careful in our judgement of others.

1 Corinthians 4:

5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each one’s praise will come from God. (NKJV).

1 Corinthians 13:

9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away. (NKJV).

Fifth, Heaven is the place where we shall see the full revelation of God’s glory:

In heaven, we shall see God face to face, without any veil. Whatever the depth, degree or dimension of God’s glory that may be revealed to you in this life, it is just a tip of the iceberg of God’s glory you will see in heaven.

In heaven, you will see God as He truly is – in His full glory and majesty. What an awesome sight that would be!

Revelation 22:

3 And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.

4 They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. (NKJV).

Sixth, Heaven is the venue or place for the official consummation of the union between the Lord Jesus Christ and His bride, the Church:

Heaven is the place for the marriage of the Lamb when the glorious and triumphant Church, holy and without blemish, will be presented to the Lord Jesus Christ as a chaste virgin.

2 Corinthians 11:

2 For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. (NKJV).

Revelation 19:

7 “Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.”

8 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints.

9 Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!

‘” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.” (NKJV).

Lastly, Heaven is the place where the saints will be rewarded for their works or services on earth:

The Scripture teaches that the saints will appear before the Judgement seat of Christ, not to be judged or condemned, but for their works or services to be examined and rewarded (Rom. 14:10).

Paul aptly states this truth.

2 Corinthians 5:

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad. (NKJV).

Beloved, your work or service to God is going to be tested with fire in heaven to reveal its true nature, quality, or motive.

1 Corinthians 3:

13 Each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.

14 If anyone’s work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward.

15 If anyone’s work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. (NKJV).

Only the works done in obedience to God through the Holy Spirit with pure motive to glorify God will be rewarded in heaven.

1 Peter 4:

11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen. (NKJV).

Colossians 3:

17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. (NKJV).

1 Corinthians 10:

31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. (NKJV).

Prayer: My Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for making adequate plan and provision for me to enjoy eternity with You in heaven, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
